A Mother's Legacy, A daughter's Purpose
Our Story
From her love grew a legacy.
From that legacy, Happy Daffodils was born.
I remember telling my mum about my dream to help children in rural communities discover technology. Her eyes lit up…..she believed every child, no matter where they lived, should touch the future with their own hands. Today, Happy Daffodils carries that dream forward.
Happy Daffodils is a nonprofit dedicated to bridging the digital divide for children aged 6–17 (and, in special cases, up to 20) from underserved communities in Ghana and beyond. At our core, we believe no child should be left behind in the digital age. By tackling the systemic challenges behind digital exclusion, we’re nurturing a generation ready to dream, create, and lead in the digital world.
This mission is our contribution to a better world. We are proudly committed to advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, specifically focusing on Quality Education (SDG 4), Gender Equality (SDG 5), Reduced Inequalities (SDG 10), and Good Health & Well-being (SDG 3).
Why “Happy Daffodils”?
The daffodil is one of the first flowers to bloom after a long winter — a symbol of new beginnings, resilience, and hope. Despite the cold and harsh conditions, it rises bright and strong, bringing warmth and joy wherever it grows.
At Happy Daffodils, we see the same spirit in the children we serve. Many grow up in challenging environments with limited access to opportunities, yet they carry incredible potential and strength within them. Just like daffodils that bloom through the harsh winter frost, these children only need a little nurturing, care, and sunlight (access to technology, mentorship, and encouragement) to flourish and brighten their world.
Our Approach
We Facilitate Safe Learning Spaces
At Happy Daffodils, a “safe learning space” is more than just a room with computers. It is a nurturing, supportive, and inclusive environment where children can be curious, make mistakes, and build confidence without fear of judgment.
Our approach is built on three pillars of safety
1. Emotional & Intellectual Safety: Our mentors and volunteers are trained to be positive guides. We foster a “no stupid questions” atmosphere where every child is encouraged to explore, collaborate, and find their own voice.
2.Digital Safety (Digital Citizenship): We don’t just provide access to technology; we provide the wisdom to use it. A core part of our curriculum is dedicated to teaching children how to be safe and responsible online, from protecting their privacy and identifying misinformation to being kind, compassionate digital citizens.
3.Physical & Inclusive Safety: We partner with communities to ensure our labs are secure, welcoming, and accessible to all children, regardless of their background or gender. We are committed to creating spaces where every child feels they belong.
Our Core Values
1. Inclusion & Equity: Every child deserves a fair chance to thrive, with the right support to reach their full potential.
2.Collaboration: We work hand in hand with communities, schools, and partners.
3.Compassion: Kindness and humanity are at the heart of all we do.
4.Innovation: We use technology creatively to drive social good.
5.Integrity: We uphold transparency and accountability in every action.
6.Impact: We measure success by the lives we touch and transform.
7.Data-Driven: We use evidence and feedback to make smart decisions and maximize our impact.
